There are situations when all you need is to stay quiet and watch the world unfold before you. It is better to remain quiet than speak in many instances. Sometimes, just listen to understand those around you and wait for things to unravel.
Silence is golden. How often have you said something and hastily wished you could take it back? Maybe you spoke too soon or probably it did not come out right. Perhaps, it was the expression on the other person’s face that made you regret what came out of your mouth. How often did you not say what you craved to, only to replay the conversation that could have been? . And all you are left with is the anguish of “if only.”
“If only I’d spoken up.”
“If only I’d stayed quiet.”
“If only I had said it differently.”
This guilt bothers you in an unceasingly intense manner and leave you feeling worse about yourself every single time.
Silence is golden, it is often better to say nothing in a difficult situation. Words are important but it is often better to be quiet when you are not sure of how you are feeling at that time. Reserve your comments for a more convenient time to express yourself appropriately.
It does not show cowardice.
It does not make you look stupid.
It does not mean you are worthless.
It often means that you are in control of yourself.
Lashing out will make you say things you might regret later. It is then that you would start asking for directions to the person’s house to apologies, or you start wondering how the person will react when he or she sees you the next day.
Who has that time and strength?
Always align your action with who you want to be.
Speech is Silver but silence is golden.
