The feast of Saint Valentine, commonly known as Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. It’s by the corner, the most lovey-dovey day of the year. It is a day of celebration indeed.
However, there is need for us to explain to our children what Valentine’s Day is all about. They need to know that Valentine’s Day is more than romance and that it has nothing to do with the commercialized sexiness as generally but wrongly portrayed by many people.
Let your children understand that its more about showing love, affection, kindness, compassion and appreciation.
The day is dedicated to celebrating love in its purest form, that is, expressing love by doing something thoughtful for someone.
Make it known to your teenagers that Valentine’s Day is not a day for exotic get together as believed by most of them. This explains the tendency by many of them to engage in improper behaviours in the name of love. These faulty thoughts and acts should be corrected immediately.
Meanwhile, dear parents, have great fun with your family on Valentine’s Day. Luckily, this year’s Valentine is on a Sunday, keep aside those files you brought home from work and cool off with your family.
